THis fucking makes me hate processed food and want to eat clean even more. GR!$#!

This is amazing, I’ll really pay more attention to sugar now :o I remember I started tracking sugar on MyFitnessPal and I always went over the limit, so I just stopped tracking, I really should do that again.

For people who can’t view it through Tumblr.

A lovely inforgraphic that tells the confused and non-believers how low carbing is for us…

People often worry about me when they find out I eat low carb but I’m actually in better health because I don’t eat regular bread or pasta. I get all of my nutrients and then some from the foods I can eat. I’m losing and keeping off the weight, I have fantastic blood pressure and sugar levels, and only have a handful of my PCOS symptoms.
I have no qualms with people who eat starchy carbs. There are many people like my brothers who are lucky and missed the genetic grenade. Their bodies have no problem processing normal moderate amounts of them. It’s the people who live off starches and sugar that worry me. Even if they’re not overweight they’re drastically increasing their risk for type-2 diabetes (as well as a handful of other problems) and most don’t even realize it. I’m appalled by the amount of people I’ve met in the health and fitness community who believe eating fat causes diabetes.

My experience with PCOS

September is PCOS awareness month. Even though I decided months ago that when it rolled around I was going to take the opportunity to talk about it, I still kept going back and forth on the issue. My symptoms are a huge reason this blog is anonymous. Many of the people I know have no idea what I go through and I’d prefer to keep it that way. I get sick of the pity and being treated differently but I also worry that nobody wanting to talk about it is what’s taking so long for the disorder to get the acknowledgement it deserves. So I think this is as good a time as any to open up and talk about the things I have to deal with. It might even help shed some light on some posts or help someone else.

Is Your Menstrual Cycle Affecting Your Blood Sugar?

Women build up high levels of estrogen and progesterone about a week before menstruation. Some scientists believe that these hormones interfere with insulin sensitivity in many women, most often making blood sugar run high, but sometimes causing it to drop. So take out your record of blood glucose readings for the last three months and mark the dates when your last three periods began. Were your blood sugar levels high a week before each period? If so, experiment with some countermeasures. Exercise more around this time and cut back on carbs, for instance. If you use insulin, ask your doctor if it’s okay to slowly increase your dose a touch and back off again when your period starts. If your blood sugar tends to drop a week before your period, do the reverse: Temporarily exercise less, consume more carbs, and lower your insulin dose slightly if your doctor says it’s okay.

Raspberry Ketone

The lovely owner of the local health food store (who happens to have PSOD), has informed me that there’s apparently a newish supplement called Raspberry Ketone that her doctor is encouraging patients with PCOS to try.  She said it’s been featured in a few places but I can’t recall hearing about it before. It’s suppose to help with balancing insulin, increases your energy and helps the body break down stored fat. I hate so called miracle pills but it’s rare to hear of one getting a doctor’s endorsement. They’re pricey but I want to splurge and pick up a bottle. I figure if it works it’ll be worth the price, if not lesson learned. You’re suppose to see results within 2 weeks on 100mg-200mg per day. When I buy it (probably after i buy a new computer) I’ll document it just like I did with the other supplements. I don’t have high hopes but it would be nice if this one actually works for me. I’m still keeping thorough records of my progress with Jillian Michaels’ program so can compare it to what I’ve done so far with diet and exorcise alone.

I’m not sure which is worse; having to deal with cysts on a monthly basis or enjoying months without them only to be doubled over in pain when one finally appears.

There’s a lot of articles lately that mention PCOS. I hope this isn’t just because it’s September.

I’m starting to think there is something about me that keeps causing all these side-effects. Medications that work well for everyone else cause me nothing but problems. Even taking half the prescribed dose I woke up the last two days late, feeling sick, and with really low glucose levels. After calling and complaining I was told to stop taking them immediately. I don’t like the type of questions they were asking. Have you slept yet? Is there anyone there with you? Does anyone know your schedule? I don’t even remember what day I called them so I can’t remember if I had taken another dose or not afterward. I think I’d rather feel trapped on a diet, deprived, and deal with constant stalls than deal with feeling this way.

I should make a special tag just for these types of posts so that whenever I start wondering if meds would be healthful I can go back and read them.
